AAPD / HSHC Proudly Announces Five Scholarships for the Master Clinician Program

November 2012 Volume XLVIII Number 6

Building on the momentum of several years, the AAPD and Healthy Smiles, Healthy Children: The Foundation of the American Academy of Pediatric Dentistry proudly announces the 2013 Master Clinician Scholarship Program.

The idea of switching from an office practice to an academic career may seem like a daunting challenge it needn’t be.

An academic career provides the practicing dentist a new opportunity to utilize their experiences in shaping the careers of the aspiring professional. Dentists that teach also have a greater opportunity to develop new techniques and innovations in care through research and scholarly activities and can also influence national dental education policies through service with the AAPD, ADA, ADEA, HRSA and NIDCR.

Other benefits of an academic career include improving access to oral health care through community service, mentoring of residents, fullor part-time employment with benefits and personal and professional growth.

The AAPD and HSHC are pleased to announce five scholarships to be part of the 2013 AAPD class in the Pediatric Dentistry Master Clinician Program.

The ITL program consists of six and a half days of learning experiences. This is divided into two phases that are conducted approximately two months apart. ITL scholars complete betweenphase activities to reinforce and augment program content.

AAPD/HSHC scholarship recipients will attend the ITL in August and October 2013 at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill School of Dentistry. Scholarship applications must be received by the AAPD by March 19, 2013

Further information on the Institute for Teaching and Learning, may be found at their website: http://academicleaders.org/institute-for- teaching-and-learning.html.

In addition to attendance at the ITL, AAPD Master Clinicians will be able to attend the Comprehensive Review of Pediatric Dentistry as part of the scholarship program.
