PAC Corner

July 2013 Volume XLVIX Number 4

The AAPD PAC continues to grow in size and influence, and I thank all of our 2012 supporters, who were listed in the May 2013 issue of PDT.

As you know, you can support the AAPD PAC via the voluntary PAC contribution "check-off " on your current 2013-14 dues statement. Your support is critical to our long-term success. Once you do so, why not consider increasing your PAC contribution by perhaps 10 or 20 percent this year? Also, remember that if you want your dollars applied directly to candidate support, please make your PAC contribution via a personal credit card or check.

You received a specific appeal letter from your PAC Steering Committee district representative that highlighted how important your support of the AAPD PAC is to our advocacy efforts. I urge you to review this closely. Your PAC Steering Committee met in conjunction with the AAPD Public Policy Advocacy Conference described in the May 2013 issue, to discuss and evaluate past activities and begin planning for the 2014 Congressional election cycles. A number of key supporters of AAPD issues are up for re-election in the U.S. Senate in 2014.

For the first time in PAC history we organized a fund raiser in Washington, D.C., (rather than participating in events organized by others) at the AAPD Public Policy Advocacy Conference. This fund raiser, organized in conjunction with the Hogan Lovells PAC, was held for Congressman Jack Kingston (R-Georgia 1st), who is the new chair of the House Appropriations Subcommittee on Labor-HHS-Education. It was a great success, and we plan on doing it again next time the right candidate comes along. The AAPD PAC did well in support of successful Republican and Democratic candidates in the 2012 Congressional election cycle. Accompanying this column are some photos of pediatric dentists in action, helping to deliver those PAC checks via fund-raising events of one-one-one meet and greets. I want to thank everyone who helped deliver PAC checks during this very important campaign season. The details of our 2012 efforts were provided in Dr. Kays annual written report to the membership which is posted on the AAPD website for Member Resources, under 2013 Annual Session Governance Materials. I am honored to be named as the new chair of the PAC Steering Committee. I want to thank Lew Kay for his inspiring leadership of the PAC Steering Committee for the past four years. He is a tough act to follow. For further information about the AAPD PAC, please contact PAC Secretary C. Scott Litch at (312) 337-2169 ext. 29 or slitch@ aapd.org.
