See you in Boston!

January 2014 Volume L Number 1

It's a pleasure to invite you, your office staff and family to the 2014 Annual Session of the American Academy of Pediatric Dentistry (AAPD) in Boston! All of the planning efforts have paid off and we're in a great position to have one of the best meetings ever. The Scientific Program takes place at the Hynes Convention Center located in the heart of Back Bay; all the hotels are conveniently connected through the Copley Mall and are close to tons of restaurants and shopping.

The Welcome Reception takes place at Fenway Park on a new night: Friday. The AAPD has exclusive access to America's Favorite Ball- park and home of the 2013 World Series Champions! Spend the night with Boston and New England's favorite mascots: Wally the Green Monster, Pat Patriot, Blades the Bruin, Larry the Lobster and Lucky the Leprechaun. Enjoy some time in the Little League Area designed for kids and kids at heart. The right field rooftop includes a magnificent view of the field as well as the Boston skyline with an interactive karaoke DJ that will keep the vibe upbeat with guests belting out songs new and old. There is much more fun planned for that evening!

The scientific program promises to deliver the cutting-edge topics you've come to expect at the Annual Session. The Preconference Course on Thursday is an update from the successful course, Pediatric Medicine Update. The opening keynote is "A Conversation with Henry Winkler". Does the Fonz need more introduction than that? Henry Winkler is an accomplished actor, writer, producer and director.

In 2003, Winkler began writing a series of children's novels with his partner, Lin Oliver, entitled, "Hank Zipzer: The World's Greatest Under-Achiever." The books are inspired by Winkler's struggle throughout his education due to his learning challenges and have appeared on several best-seller lists, including The New York Times and the Los Angeles Times. Continuing his love for children's books, Winkler released the first installment of a new series in January 2012 entitled "Ghost Buddy #1: Zero to Hero." In 2011, he published a collection of anecdotes and heartfelt observations, "I Never Met an Idiot on the River." The book is a collection of the lessons and photos Winkler gathered while fly fishing in Montana.

The celebration at the Presidents' Farewell Dinner promises to be an amazing black-tie affair at the Museum of Fine Arts! Be sure to make plans to stay for this wonderful event honoring our top achievers in the pediatric dentist community and having exclusive access to this wonderful museum!

I would like to personally thank both Craig Elice and Bob Moreau, the local arrangements chairs. Their work to make this a spectacular event is appreciated by me, and will be noticed by everyone.

See you in Boston!
