Corporate Spotlight: NuSmile Pediatric Crowns

January 2014 Volume L Number 1

Founded in 1991, with just a handful of employees, the NuSmile company has grown to more than 60 full time staff at their new headquarters in Houston, Texas. With distributors in 27 countries outside of North America and growing, NuSmile is a leading manufacturer of esthetic primary crowns worldwide. "We are very proud the NuSmile brand is well known in both the US and international dental communities," said Diane Johnson Krueger, CEO of NuSmile Crowns.

NuSmile's mission has always been to provide esthetic and durable pediatric dental restorations to help improve the lives of children suffering from early childhood caries, as well as to be as supportive as possible of pediatric dentistry and pediatric dental education. "We feel fortunate to be able to make contributions through various corporate roles in pediatric dentistry. First and foremost to offer pediatric dentists quality options for restoring badly decayed primary teeth. Secondly, we are committed financially and via product contributions to generously support numerous missions of organized pediatric dentistry. Including providing educational opportunities within the dental community and to pediatric dental training programs, and by helping to fund research," Krueger said.

Like the AAPD, NuSmile wishes to advance the cause of organized pediatric dentistry and improve the lives of children by helping to raise the standard of care in pediatric dentistry. As a closely held family business NuSmile moves quickly to make decisions to commit and direct funds to important causes in pediatric dentistry.

"We believe our dedication to manufacturing esthetic pediatric crowns has helped change the standard of care and improved the lives of children. Parents are concerned that their child have a normal, natural looking smile so that they are not teased by other children or treated differently because of how their teeth look. We are proud to be a part of helping dentists help kids." said Jason Johnson, COO of NuSmile.

Throughout North America the company only sells direct to dentists. Customers provide valuable firsthand knowledge of how products perform, what is important to them and what works best. Krueger works collaboratively with her son, Jason Johnson, with emphasis on building personal relationships with their customers. They are intimately involved in the day-to-day operations at their facility and within the pediatric dental community. "As owners we are truly committed to our customers' success and happiness with our products," Krueger said.

NuSmile's R&D department continues to work toward developing new and innovative products exclusively dedicated to pediatric dentists. The introduction of NuSmile ZR (Zirconia) Crowns brings NuSmile's high level of quality assurance and numerous unique product advantages in monolithic zirconia technology to pediatric dentists. NuSmile will continue to be one of AAPD's largest corporate sponsors helping to fund educational activities, research, special recognition awards and outreach programs that help raise the standard of care and awareness of the importance of pediatric oral health. "The greatest thing is being able to give back and support pediatric dentistry, knowing that we are making a difference in the lives of children with our products and by our commitments to AAPD, IAPD, EAPD and regional pediatric dental groups. We hope this, and every child who no longer has to have a second thought before smiling, defines who we are," Krueger said.
