Robert H. Spedding Sr., 84, of Lexington, Ky., died Aug. 17, 2015, after a prolonged illness. Born in Lockport, N.Y., he was raised in  by his Aunt Nell and Uncle Howard after both his parents passed away when he was a young boy.
He completed his undergraduate studies at Indiana University. After obtaining his bachelor’s degree, he went on to obtain his degree in Pediatric Dentistry from Indiana University’s School of Dentistry. In 1963, he was brought to the University of Kentucky as a professor in pediatric dentistry where he taught for 35 years, retiring in 1998.
He is survived by many and predeceased by a few. His wife of 34 years, Ann Buche Spedding, passed in 1993. His oldest son, Robert H. Spedding Jr., passed in 1995 and his sisters, Ann Van Epps and Katherine Byron, all predeceased him. He is survived by his sons, John Howard Spedding and his wife CeCe of Denver, Colo., Christopher Allen Spedding of Lexington; five grandchildren, Tommy and Hannah Spedding of Denver and Savannah, J.J. and Lizzie Spedding of Lexington. He is also survived by his special friend of many years, Ann Haynes, and a nephew who cared for him until the end, Raymond J. Byron Jr.and his wife Karen of Lexington.
