A Message from Your Local Arrangements Committee

January 2020 Volume LV Number 1

Welcome to AAPD 2020 in Nashville!
Welcome to AAPD 2020 in Nashville, Tennessee! Music City USA is the center for country music, singers, and songwriters from all    over the world.  The Ryman Auditorium was built in 1892 as the largest auditorium south of the Ohio River.  It is known as the Mother Church of country music.  The Grand Ole Opry is an American icon, the longest-running radio show in America, and has helped launch the careers of countless country musicians. Nashville isn’t just country music; music of all types can be found here. It is the home of the Nashville Predators and the Tennessee Titans. Nashville is a vibrant, growing city, breaking out with new businesses, delivering a dynamic food and cocktail scene, and hosting stunning outdoor scenery. However, music is the common thread that is woven into Nashville’s social fabric.  The bright lights of Broadway are a reminder that this is the place where music is written, recorded, and performed 365 days a year.
AAPD 2020 will take place at the Music City Center located in downtown Nashville. It is surrounded by numerous hotels, restaurants, and entertainment venues.  Tour the Country Music Hall of Fame and the Ryman Auditorium to experience the evolution of one of the fastest growing and most influential genres of music. Nashville also boasts the museums of the country legends: Johnny Cash, Patsy Cline, and George Jones.  For fresh air, enjoy the beauty of outdoor Nashville at Centennial Park, where verdant greens attract wildlife around a gorgeous lake with waterside paths all against the backdrop of a full-scale replica of the Greek Parthenon. Take an afternoon stroll through Hillsboro Village or East Nashville to check out local shops, restaurants, and cafes. Explore Green Hills for the city’s most popular retailers. Go antiquing in the charming historic downtown Franklin.  For the history buffs, explore the Carter house to find out about a decisive battle in the Civil War.
The Welcome Reception will be held at multiple venues centering on 2nd Avenue. The Wildhorse Saloon will offer live music, line danc- ing, and Southern cuisine. Experience George Jones’ legacy at the George Jones Museum, and see his memorabilia up close and personal, immersing yourself in his powerful story. To the east, you can find Riverfront Park with fun for the whole family.
On behalf of the American Academy of Pediatric Dentistry and the Local Arrangements Committee, we would like to welcome you to Nashville for the 73rd Annual Session. The Scientific Program Committee has been tireless in organizing a program and line-up of speakers that brings contemporary topics to the forefront.  We are certain that you and your staff will find the topics appealing: trauma management, behavior guidance, interceptive orthodontics, minimally invasive caries management, and more!
We would like to thank John Rutkauskas and the AAPD staff of Kristi Casale, Colleen Bingle, Caroline Oliva and Kelly Stancato for their hard work in helping to plan the wonderful venues for the program.  Mark your calendars and please join us at AAPD 2020 in Nashville, May 21-24.
